It is always good to see Debbie and Armando of MACO AUDIO, a talented and creative team always purposed to bring their best, which they consistently do. And this outing, like the very first where I’d met them in Toronto was truly enticing. The first measure of this for me is when a smile finds me and my head nods rhythmically to the music being played. And so it was.
I remember my first introduction to the MACO Macaria speakers and their impressive build quality, let alone their aesthetics, which spoke to a Top-of-the-Line (TOTL) product, though at a very reasonable cost. And when one takes into account the music that issued forth, well, yes, there are still small wonders in the world.
The music was replete with texture, it was detailed, the soundstage was deep, there was a wonderful layering of performers. The tone and timbre were natural, and there was gravitas—weight—to the presentation, that too many systems miss. One of my key arbiters of a system’s musical bonafides—”Take Five” (Time Out, Columbia Records)—cued for play and there was a refreshing clarity, openness, and resolution to Joe Morello’s hi-hats that gave them superb in-room palpability. Suffice to say, that the MACO room brought the music and thus can, no doubt, be considered one of the show’s best rooms.
