STILL POINTS

This was a most interesting room. Still Points, the manufacturer of, well, isolation devices and racks, pulled a system together and placed that system upon their racks and isolation devices and took a shot at best of show. And while its cost would, no doubt, place it as a ‘big room,’ let me tell you how close their shot got to Best of Show. 

The resolution and detail from this Still Points’ system as it resolved Joe Morello’s cymbals on “Take Five” (Time Out, Columbia) was very good, as was the width and depth of the soundstage, there was exceptional inner detail, and the microdynamics blazed! And like the other exceptional systems this system also brought the air and ambiance and space of the venue that placed the performance much closer to being, well, a tangible rendition. 

While there I very much relaxed into the beautifully articulated performances and into a sense of its naturalness, given its ability to portray texture and tone well. Yes, the Still Points room, was definitely one of the best sounds of the show.
